We are all very excited for Michael Wade to visit our school on Monday. Mr. Wade is the author of the “And then it happened” series, which is very popular in the library. Students are excited to get their books autographed and for the opportunity to ask Mr. Wade some questions.

Thanks to our teachers’ support and our students’ efforts, our school had the most entries of all the area schools for this year’s Beeton Fair. As a result, we have won the prize of $350 for the library!!!!
This money will be spent on buying the most recent releases of children’s and young adult books to update our library collection. This is such great news for our library!

I have been reading I Am a Taxi (by Deborah Ellis) to the grade seven and eight classes each week when they visit the library, and Ms. McKee is reading another Deborah Ellis book with her grade seven class. Last week at a conference I considered myself lucky to see Deborah Ellis speak, and got to hear her read from her latest book No Safe Place.
And as if that wasn’t cool enough… after she spoke I got her to sign a copy of No Safe Place for the students of Ernest Cumberland and got my picture taken with her!

Over the past few months I have been working to create a sense of space in the library. The first was to create an area where we can meet to read. This involved moving the non-fiction to the other side of the library, moving the picture book section near the windows and creating a seating area. I also worked to created a fiction section where authors are in alphabetical order along the wall, and series fiction are on the metal turnstyles.
We also got a brand new library circulation desk – photos to come!

I have been wanting to start a library blog for quite some time now. I thought it would be a great way to share library news, updates, and information with our school community.
I thought that today should be the day – since it is Family Literacy Day!
Check back soon as I continue to add to our new site!
Happy Reading,
Miss Nash
